Q: Is there an accredited Preschool Program at SAA?
A: Yes. We offer a wonderful program for 3 and 4 year old preschool children at a highly competitive price. We also offer affordable wraparound care for preschool-age children too.
Q: What makes your preschool program different?
A: Our preschool program offers many of the special activities that grade school children would receive including technology, gym, art and music. Consequently, it provides children an easier transition from preschool to kindergarten. They also get to participate in school-wide activities, have Prayer Partners with the grade-level students and more. Full day, five days per week options are available. Located on Empire Blvd on the Irondequoit and City of Rochester line, St. Ambrose is convenient to many homes and jobs.
Q: Do we have to be Catholic to send our child to SAA?
A: No. We welcome students of all faiths and backgrounds to our diverse learning community. In fact, many of our families are not Catholic.

Q: What curriculum does SAA School follow?
A: Our curriculum is dictated by the Diocese of Rochester, taught with the goal of meeting and exceeding the standards set by New York State and the Common Core. Subject areas include religion, reading and language arts, math, science, social studies, computers, music, art, physical education, and health.
As a Catholic school, a religious dimension is woven throughout study to enhance the academic curriculum. Each child is seen as a person whose integrity rests upon the fulfillment of his or her potential as a child of God. Great care is taken to provide growth in Christian beliefs, values, and attitudes throughout the school program on a daily basis.
Q: Are uniforms required?
A: Yes. Uniforms are required for students in K-5 classes. Preschool students are encourage to wear comfortable, age-appropriate clothing.
Q: How often will students attend church?
A: Each grade level celebrates monthly masses in the peaceful setting of the chapel along with monthly school masses and prayer services. Masses celebrated are the opening mass (start of school), Christmas, Lent, Easter, and closing mass (end of year). All services throughout the year are highlighted on the school’s calendar. This will most often occur at Peace of Christ’s St. Ambrose Church, directly adjacent to St. Ambrose Academy.
Q: What are the hours for a normal school day at SAA School?
A: The school day for grades Pre-K-5 is 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM.
Q: How does bus transportation work at SAA School?
A: Bus transportation is provided by your home district for any child in grades K-5 who are more than 1.5 miles from St. Ambrose Academy and within a 15 mile radius from the home district (per State Law). Transportation forms are available at registration.
Q: Does SAA School offer extended child care?
A: Yes. We offer a flexible and affordable child care program for our SAA School families that extends beyond normal school hours. It is available for preschool students and K-5. Get more information about our extended child care offerings HERE.
Q: What enrichment activities are offered?
A: We offer a variety of after-school activities including Gardening Club, Intergenerational Bell Choir, Piano Lessons, Game Club, Drama Club, Field Trips, and CYO basketball and soccer are available through Peace of Christ Parish.
Q: May I volunteer?
A: Yes! We welcome family members to volunteer in our school. All volunteers must complete CASE training every three years.
